Search Still On for R100 Million Lotto Winner
Updated: Wednesday 21st August 2024
More than two weeks after someone won a Lotto jackpot of R100 million, the hunt is still on for the lucky ticket holder and players are being urged to check their entries.
The huge win came on Saturday, 3 August, making it the second-largest jackpot in Lotto history. And as the record payout of R110 million was split between four winners in January 2018, it was actually the biggest prize to have ever been won on a single Lotto ticket.
It was announced shortly after the draw that the ticket was purchased at Pick n Pay, Hazeldean Square, in Pretoria, but the prize has still not been claimed.
There is no rush for the winner to come forward as there is a 365-day deadline for claiming, and it may be that the ticket holder is just taking their time to digest the news, seeking financial advice or waiting for the media hype to calm down.
However, big winners usually stake a claim quickly and there is a chance that the lucky player has either forgotten to check the results or perhaps even lost their ticket.
Charmaine Mabuza, CEO of National Lottery operator Ithuba, said: “It is quite likely that the winner is still not aware that they hold the winning ticket. We urge all players to check their tickets urgently to see if they are the lucky winner of this life-changing jackpot.
“Our dedicated team is waiting with anticipation to receive the winner to ensure a seamless claim process and transition into their new multi-millionaire status.”
If the prize is not claimed by August 3 2025, the money will go to the National Lottery Distribution Fund, where it will be reallocated to good causes across South Africa.
