R99 Million PowerBall Jackpot Goes To Pretoria Man
A financial worker from Pretoria has come forward to claim the huge R99 million PowerBall jackpot that was won on 19 July.
The Division 1 prize stood on the brink of R100 million after almost two months without a winner, but it was stopped from going any higher as one lucky player matched all the numbers - 14, 18, 29, 46 and 47, plus the PowerBall of 16.
The winning ticket was purchased through the FNB app, with a wager of R150 staked, and the jackpot has now been claimed just a few days later.
The winner has decided to remain anonymous, and he does plan to make any extravagant purchases. He even intends to carry on working.
“I have no plans to make big changes to my lifestyle, everything will still be normal, perhaps I may just buy a car and a house only,” he said.
“I do plan on paying off debt and investing the rest of the money."
Reflecting on the moment when he found out he had won, the Gauteng man felt that his persistence had finally paid off, having played the lottery since he was a young man.
“I was excited, extremely happy,” he said. “I have been playing lottery games since my days in university, so it has been many years, and this is the first time I won any jackpot.
“People need to understand that the odds of winning the lottery are very high, you will never know when it will be your turn to win, now I know that winning is possible.”
PowerBall has already created a number of other big winners this year, including the woman from Johannesburg who landed R126 million on 20 May. Draws are held every Tuesday and Friday night, and the jackpot can quickly climb towards nine figures after a few rollovers.
