First Lotto Millionaires of 2023
The first Lotto millionaires of 2023 have come forward to claim their prizes, amid a fantastic start to the year for big winners.
Lotto was won for the first time on Saturday 14th January, when two players split a jackpot of more than R10 million.
One of the winners was a helper from the Western Cape, who immediately shared her news with her daughter and set her sights on a bigger house. She said: “I was so excited when I found out that I won, I screamed.”
A man from Cape Town, on the other hand, has no plans to tell anyone that he is now a multimillionaire, after winning more than R25 million on Saturday 21st January.
He revealed that he always thought he would win one day, but said he would not make major changes to his lifestyle. He plans to continue working in the retail sector, pay off his debt and buy property.
The run of winners continued on Saturday 28th January, as a single ticket holder won R1.9 million on Lotto Plus 1, while another player landed R10 million on Lotto Plus 2.
There has also been a PowerBall winner in 2023, with a young call centre agent snapping up a jackpot worth R72 million on Tuesday 10th January.
An FNB client, she said she struggled to believe she had really won when she was contacted by phone to tell her that she needed to go in to claim her prize.
Speaking about her plans for the future, she said: “I will definitely be buying a car that is more aligned with my new life, and I will be buying a house for myself and my family. I also look forward to living a fancy lifestyle.
“We have always wanted to travel to France and other European countries as a family,”
