Lotto Players Bring 2023 to an End in Style

A number of Lotto players have been able to celebrate the New Year in style after winning big jackpots.

The main Lotto jackpot has been won three times in the space of two and a half weeks, starting with a father of three from Nelspruit who landed R20 million on 20 December.

Another win, worth R8,9 million, was secured by a player who used the Standard Bank online platform for the draw on 30 December. The success continued into 2024 too, with a Lotto player banking R4.8 million on 6 January.

In Lotto Plus 1, the jackpot was won just before Christmas when a ticket holder matched all the numbers to pocket R8.7 million.

The biggest win of the festive period, though, came in Lotto Plus 2. After rolling over for 28 consecutive draws, the jackpot stood at R30 million for the draw on 30 December.

A player using the Capitec online banking platform won the entire jackpot, and has wasted little time in coming forward to their prize.

National Lottery operator Ithuba has revealed that it was a woman who won the huge prize. Despite being an infrequent player, she had previously had a win of R60,000 in Cape Town, and now look forward to a bright 2024 and beyond.

She had initially thought the notification she received might be a digital scam, but after being assured of her win she now has renewed faith in the power of the lottery.

A statement from Ithuba read: “With plans to renovate her grandmother’s house, she encourages fellow South Africans to participate in the lottery, attesting to the National Lottery’s genuine nature and emphasising the existence of real winners. As she embarks on this new year on a positive note, she stands as living proof that the lottery offers tangible rewards.”

While there have been a host of Lotto winners in recent weeks, the Powerball jackpot has remained just out of reach. It is currently worth R77 million ahead of Tuesday night’s draw.
